PBIS at Girard School District #3

"More Instructional Time Gained by Our Fully Implemented PBIS School"

The Girard school district is in their 3rd year of implementation through the Positive Behavior Interventions and Support program.  By creating an atmosphere of less office discipline referrals, there has been increased time for academic instruction.  Our district has established a process to encourage/celebrate expected behaviors each and everyday by acknowledging students for behaving positively.  The purposes of acknowledgments is to reinforce the teaching of new behaviors, encourage the behaviors we want to occur again in the future, harness the influence of the kids who are showing expected behaviors to encourage the kids who are not and strengthen positive behaviors that can compete with problem behavior.  By increasing the time of academic instruction, achievement scores should improve drastically.

The Girard staff has been working extremely hard to teach, pre-correct and re-teach targeted behavior.  District #3's goal is that students will be caring self managers throughout the school day by following the three school rules:

BE SAFE, BE RESPECTFUL and BE RESPONSIBLE!

Our hope is that our students will continue to demonstrate their positive behavior in the community as well.

Great job to all of our students and staff!
